To call Star Wars: The Last Jedi a divisive film would be a drastic understatement. It would be like saying Bill Gates is making a “comfortable” amount of money he makes a year. With this film, you have fans on both sides who can’t comprehend why others feel the day they do about the film. Hell, even here at LRM, we find ourselves at opposite ends, with a single Slack channel dedicated to continuous arguments over why the other group is wrong about the film.
On the heels of that film’s release and the subsequent box office haul of Solo: A Star Wars Story, many fans thought Lucasfilm would listen to the fans and fire Johnson from his own original trilogy of Star Wars films that he was announced to be in charge of — with him writing all three, and directing at least the first film. If you were one such fan, I’ve got bad news for you: he’s still hard at work on his own movies. The filmmaker took to Twitter to answer that very question, and you can check out his unambiguous response down below.
Yup. 👊🏻

As someone who still adores Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you won’t get any complaints from me, but I also think that, regardless of where you stand on the film, an original trilogy much better suits the filmmaker. Without any character canon to draw from, he’ll be able to make all the shocking decisions he wants without “contaminating” beloved characters.
How do you feel about him still being in charge of a new trilogy? Do you think this is a good move from Lucasfilm not to change their vision as a knee-jerk reaction to fans, or is it further proof that the franchise is too fargone to be saved? Let us know your thoughts down below!
