Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is firmly in our rear-view mirrors, it’s kind of cool to look back at some of the early rumors and check for authenticity. One such rumor revolved around a very specific scene with Finn reuniting with a former Stormtrooper colleague while undercover.
The scene in question had a random Stormtrooper recognize Finn. Once he realizes he’s the same character, he comments on him ending up as a captain, and slapped him on the butt. This scene not only came in tandem with our first revelation that Finn would be going off on his own, but also supposedly starred one Tom Hardy as the masked Stormtrooper.

I’m a bit torn about them cutting it. On one hand, this does add an extra bout of tension to an already-tense scene — plus it’s a cool callback to the life Finn used to have. It’s also a great humanizing moment for the Stormtroopers in general, who we rarely see as anything but cannon fodder.
On the other hand, the overall blocking is a bit clunky. How could no one in the room not see Finn reaching for his sidearm, and how did no one else see DJ preventing Finn from using it? It feels a bit awkward, and in that sense, I could see myself being irked over stupid little details like that.
But what do you think? Do you wish this scene made it in the film? Sound off down below!
