Star Wars: The Last Jedi Director Rian Johnson Calls Rotten Audience Score The New ‘Certified Fresh’

Star Wars director Rian Johnson recently took to Twitter to explain his views on aggregated cinema scores. According to Johnson, Critics opinions are no longer the instrument to measure how good a film is or was. According to Johnson the power or rather opinions that matter no longer come from critics. In fact, it’s now all about how many people dislike a film as it proves some hidden agenda to render financial and critical disaster. Here’s Johnson’s tweet below.

Remember when Certified Fresh meant reviewers had just finished gushing praise all over a movie? Well, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has decided that a reversal of the norm is what’s needed. Johnson feels that the ultimate way to judge how good a film is, has nothing to do with how many honest reviews featuring praises there are. Nope. The best films are the ones that get folks riled up enough to hit the webs and post a bunch of negative s**t. Since obviously whatever content the film has, there are a bunch of angry folks that want to preemptively warn you to stay far away from the film. It is tainted, spoiled, and a waste.

Let’s recap some films that have been inundated with false reviews. Both Black Panther, and Johnson’s own Star Wars: The Last Jedi were at the mercy of trolls. People were trying to keep fans from seeing a film that has gone on to get Marvel there first Oscar wins. There was also the recent Ghostbusters reboot. Trolls were attracted to that like moths to a flame. Maybe we need to keep in mind that trolls hoard resources. So essentially they’re trying to hoard all the joyous warm feelings you’d get watching the movie and keep if for themselves. Sure, we’ll go with that.

Take Captain Marvel for example. Early reviews were really glowing. Then a few days later the troll reviews found their way online. Their yelling “stay away”! “It’s toxic. Screw feminism.” Clearly, it didn’t seem to do much, which does seem to lend credence to Johnson’s claims. What do you think? Let us know down below!
