Star Wars: The Last Jedi – New Rumours About Poe Dameron And Laura Dern’s Character

In the last week, thanks to the folks over at Making Star Wars, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has finally been giving up a few of its secrets, though nothing that could be considered earth-shattering spoilers. However, as always, if you want to remain completely spoiler free please be aware that there are potential spoilers.

Lucasfilm has been very secretive so far, but perhaps the floodgates are beginning to open just a crack on Rian Johnson’s much anticipated eighth episode of the Star Wars saga.

Leading on from some of the rumors I highlighted last week, Making Star Wars have some new potential information for us to ponder over.

These mew rumors center around two characters: Laura Dern, whose character may be called Admiral Holdo, and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron

According to the supposed leaks, Admiral Holdo, who represents the Republic, will be working against Poe Dameron within the Resistance itself politically or ideologically. We currently don’t know what these differences will entail. Her outfit seems more in line with the more ornate, decadent outfits of the prequel era in opposition to Leia’s very basic military look in The Force Awakens, perhaps to visually show the differences between the political Republic and the battle-hardened resistance fighters? She also brings with her a formidable force of ships and troops which are reminiscent of the drop ships from the prequel trilogy, the code name used for these ships has been ‘Honey droppers’ during production.

Poe Dameron himself appears to be leading the Resistance fleet in Leia’s absence, as they flee from overwhelming First Order numbers (It is rumored that Leia is injured and comatose for a portion of the movie). Poe will still have his signature X-wing, which has had some engine upgrades to make it even faster, so expect not to be disappointed if you want to see more fancy flying from Poe Dameron in this sequel.

There also seems to be lots of variation of BB droids in this movie, the resistance BB droids look older and rusty/well used, whereas the First Order BB units look ominous and newer with glowing red heat vents on their bodies, all very different from the look of BB-8, who it appears spends most of this movie with Finn and the new character ‘Rose’ (probably a code name), and rumors persist that those three will be going under cover to infiltrate the First Order in some way.

Do you have any speculation about where this is going and what these ideological differences are between Poe Dameron’s resistance and Admiral Holdo’s Republic?
