The divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi has just brought in a hefty $43.8 million worldwide on Monday, SuperheroHype reports. According to the outlet, $21.6 came from domestic ticket sales, and $22.2 million came from the rest of the world.

So how does this compare to Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Well, it’s worth remembering that that film took in well over $500 million worldwide in its opening weekend. And according to Box Office Mojo, the film took in $40.1 million domestically alone on the Monday following its release.
Translation? It’s doubtful that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will end its run anywhere near Star Wars: The Force Awakens $2 billion cume. However, it is beating the numbers for Rogue One, which hit closer to $17 million domestically on the Monday following its release. This means that it could very well be on track to hit somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 billion, which is still nothing to sneeze at.
It’ll be interesting to see how Star Wars: The Last Jedi fares in its second weekend. Between Jumanji, Pitch Perfect 3, and The Greatest Showman, there is no shortage of competition for the Christmas weekend.
