Finally Stargate is coming back with a new series announced for streaming on Amazon Prime and folks, it’s NOT a reboot. As per Variety, the new show has a very familiar name as showrunner to Stargate fans. Martin Gero who was a writer and editor on all three Stargate shows is heading up this new project.
‘Amazon is officially moving forward with a new “Stargate” TV series, Variety has learned.’
‘The new project hails from Martin Gero, who began his career in the original “Stargate” TV franchise. Exact plot details for the series are being kept under wraps. The series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and air on Prime Video.’
“Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on ‘Stargate: Atlantis,’” Gero said. “I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, ‘Stargate’ taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase. For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one’s for you. And for those that are new to our world — I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”
Great news and it was a shame the original series were cancelled. Atlantis seemed to have quick ending tacked on with no resolutions, SG1 needed TV movies to have an ending and Universe didn’t get out of first gear. I thought it was dead, the related link below, the last time there was any Stargate news, was 2018.

We also have confirmation from Gero that this is NOT A reboot.
Speaking with various online community fan creators in the Gateworld video below about the announcement, Gero said this will be a ‘new chapter’ in the existing Stargate universe. As it should be for me, a reboot is just telling the same story a new way. I think fans would much rather see what happened next.
Gero did stress that the show will welcome newcomers also. It will be suitable to watch Season 1 episode 1 and pick up the story even if you never watched any previous Stargate episode.
The new showrunner was also asked if any familiar faces may show up, but Gero was not willing to get that far yet. There need to be some surprises to come down the line.
So what do you think of a new Stargate series coming to Amazon Prime and it’s not a reboot, but a continuation? Thoughts below… I’m happy.
