After a few months where it seemed like there was finally light at the end of the tunnel of the mess that had been WWE, the clouds seem to once again be rolling in. Via a statement posted on social media by Stephanie McMahon, we have learned that she had resigned from WWE. Also that Vince McMahon has been named executive chairman.
According to the statement from Stephanie McMahon, her resignation from WWE took place on Tuesday afternoon. In her letter, she said that Nick Khan now becomes the sole CEO of WWE and (to the relief of many for the moment) Paul Levesque (Triple H), will remain Chief Content Officer.
It was soon after she resigned that WWE announced in a press release that WWE’s board of Directors had unanimously voted Vince McMahon as executive chairman of the board.
In the press release, Vince McMahon shared his support for Stephanie’s decision as well as his thoughts on Nick Khan.
“First, I’d like to express my full support for Stephanie’s personal decision. I’ll forever be grateful that she offered to step in during my absence and I’m truly proud of the job she did co-leading WWE. Stephanie has always been the ultimate ambassador for our company, and her decades of contributions have left an immeasurable impact on our brand,” said Vince.
“I’m proud to announce that Nick Khan will serve as WWE CEO. Nick’s business acumen and mastery of the media industry have helped catapult our business to record revenue and profitability. Together, we look forward to working with the Board at this critical moment in time to review our strategic alternatives and maximize value for all WWE shareholders,” continued Vince.
Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan also commented on the moves in the press release. Interestingly enough the executive that everyone is wondering about Triple H, has been silent.
