Stephen Dorff Criticizes Upcoming Marvel’s Black Widow as a Bad Video Game

Black Widow - Stephen Dorff says movie looks like a bad video game

With the first Marvel movie in theaters since the start of the pandemic, actor Stephen Dorff doesn’t plan to view Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson.

In an interview with The Independent, the actor felt embarrassed for Scarlett Johansson for this film.

“I still hunt out the good shit because I don’t want to be in Black Widow,” told Dorff to the paper via Zoom. “It looks like garbage to me. It looks like a bad video game. I’m embarrassed for those people. I’m embarrassed for Scarlett! I’m sure she got paid five, seven million bucks, but I’m embarrassed for her. I don’t want to be in those movies. I really don’t. I’ll find that kid director that’s gonna be the next Kubrick and I’ll act for him instead.

Many fans and critics may point out that Stephen Dorff is immortalized in the Marvel Universe for 1998’s Blade as the villain Deacon Frost and also starring Wesley Snipes. However, the film is not considered canon in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Stephen Dorff joins certain critics such as Martin Scorsese and talk show host Bill Maher in the industry calling these comic book movies as money grabs and debatable cinematic storytelling.

However, Dorff didn’t just criticize Black Widow, but the overall industry.

“This year’s Oscars were the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen,” he said. “My business is becoming a big game show. You have actors that don’t have a clue what they’re doing. You have filmmakers that don’t have a clue what they’re doing. We’re all in these little boxes on these streamers, TV, film – it’s all one big clusterfuck of content right now.”

Stephen Dorff recently starred in the MMA-themed fighting film Embattled to teach a son who wished to follow his father in his footsteps. He also starred on now cancelled Fox television show Deputy.

As someone who already saw Black Widow, it was on the bottom tier of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe movies for me. However, our movie critic Fox Troilo gave it a B+ rating as one of the best Marvel movies in a long time. So, it’ll be different strokes for different folks.
