Stranger Things 3 Will See A New Evil, Says Shawn Levy

Work has been underway for Season 3 of Netflix’s original series, Stranger Things, for some time now. While they’re not killing themselves to hit a 2018 release date, they are still working to an ambitious 2019 one. Given the high quality of the show, that’s no small feat.

Speaking with Glamour, Stranger Things 3 executive producer Shawn Levy gave an update on the series, and he started with letting the outlet know that they’ve pretty much planned out the storylines for the season.

“We’re there. It’ll be an eight- or nine-episode season. The number of episodes will be dictated by the amount of story that excites us. We now know what is going to happen in season three to every character.”

So what does this mean for poor Will Byers? The first season saw him trapped in the Upside Down, and last season saw him infected with something that connected his mind to the Shadow Monster. Will this new season continue the trend of nearly killing him every season?

“We’re going to give Will a break. We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row. He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play.”

Finally, we have to wonder what this new season will bring. Season 1 left a lot of unanswered questions, and while the Shadow Monster is still at-large, Season 2 closed a lot of open doors. What does this mean for the potential baddie for this next season?

“We’re [going to be] dealing with forces of evil that are new.”

While I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the Shadow Monster, it’s probably for the best that they go for a different evil this time around, just for the sake of changing things up before reverting back to that main plot. I don’t necessarily think Season 3 will be filler, but in going to a new evil, it gives them room to further explore this world they’ve created, and expand it in a different direction.
