Stranger Things 5 Star Teases Bigger Role For Will

Stranger Things Star Teases Bigger Role For Will - Confirms Sexuality

Stranger Things 5 star Noah Schnapp teases a bigger role for Will in the final season. Schnapp also confirms the sexuality of his character Will. I’m sure that won’t come as a shock to anyone who’s been watching so far.

Will of course has a rather unique perspective of the main characters, being that he was kind of the MacGuffin of Season’s 1 and 2. However while Will kinda took a back seat in Stranger Things 4, the ending teased Will’s unique connection to Vecna going forward.

Stranger Things 5

In a recent interview with Variety Schnapp talked about his hopes for Season 5, whilst admitting the Duffers really don’t tell him anything.

“The Duffers are saying for next season that they’re going to focus more on Will and build that storyline. I think that’s super exciting.”

Variety then talked about the teased connection with Vecna at the end of Season 4.

“Totally. I called them a few weeks ago and I was like, “What’s your plan with Will? Like, with his sexuality, but also with the Upside Down and all of that?” They have a lot to get to. They’re still working it out, but they have their end goal. There’s so many different things they have to address. Obviously, we hope for a coming out scene, and I also want to see them address this connection to the Mind Flayer and how that fits into the world. And I’ve always been wondering, why was Will the first victim and the first one captured? I just want to see it all tie in and all work out. So I’m excited to see what happens.”

It sounds like Schnapp has the same sorts of questions and desires for answers that the rest of the fan base has. These are the questions I have also been wondering. More specifically why will the connection with Will become important in the end, and how will it be used, either for, or against Vecna? I have plenty of crazy theories, but you don’t want to hear my mad ramblings.

Will’s Sexuality

The whole point of diversity and understanding of different cultures sexualities etc., is to normalize it. I don’t think there needs to be a conversation about Will’s plainly obvious sexual preference. Other than with regards to the character arc etc. However Schnapp did point out, that there have been clues all the way through Stranger Things about Will’s feelings towards Mike. I’m guessing most fans will have picked up on this prior to Stranger Things 4. However, even if not, there was no confusion left for me as a viewer after. It’s cool to watch back now and see little clues from earlier we might have missed.

Schnapp was asked ultimately if it would have been a spoiler to come out and say, ‘yes,  Will is struggling with coming out as gay’ prior to the show airing?

“Yeah, I think it is. Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc. I think it is done so beautifully, because it’s so easy to make a character just like all of a sudden be gay.”

“People have come up to me — I was just in Paris and this, like, 40-year-old man came up to me and he was like, “Wow, this Will character made me feel so good. And I related to it so much. That is exactly who I was when I was a kid.” That just made me so happy to hear. They are writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they’re doing it so well.”

I’m excited for Will’s journey in Stranger Things 5. However I also have a feeling he could be the one to make some kind of sacrifice play. I guess that could be anyone though, or no one at this point?
