Wait, Taiki Waititi says Thor: Love and Thunder makes Ragnarok look really safe? Hype! Read on for more details.
Thor: Ragnarok was a breath of fresh air to me, and remains one of the most rewatchable MCU movies. Director Taika Waititi just nailed the perfect blend of style and substance which suits a character like Thor. So I am excited that Waititi is back directing Thor: Love and Thunder, now due to hit theaters in February, 2022. This date was previously going to be for Captain Marvel 2, which now moves to July of the same year due to the Coronavirus delays.
Waititi hosted a Thor: Ragnarok watch party on Instagram yesterday and revealed several interesting details about the movie. However, Waititi also had some information to give out about Thor: Love and Thunder. Waititi’s comment that captured my interest was when he said Thor: Ragnarok feels ‘really safe’ compared to Thor: Love and Thunder. Here’s the transcript courtesy of ComicBook.com.
“It makes Ragnarok feel like a really run-of-the-mill, really safe film. This new movie feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what they wanted to see and then just said yes to every single thing. Oh, and there’s space sharks.”
Waititi told fans to search online for Space Sharks, and of course, they did. It turns out these creatures first appeared in the Marvel comics through the X-Men. As for what they are, well, they are Space Sharks, what did you expect? Space Sharks have also been referred to as Starsharks in the comics, occasionally being ridden by characters. Thor has come into contact with Space Sharks before, check out the image below.

If this was the director of Black Widow announcing Space Sharks, I’d genuinely be concerned. This is Waititi however, and because I loved Ragnarok so much, I just know he will pull this off and it’ll be glorious. I never thought I’d be excited to hear about Space Sharks appearing in a movie, that’s for sure.
As for Ragnarok feeling really safe when compared to Thor: Love and Thunder, bring it on. Without a doubt, Thor: Love and Thunder is the announced MCU movie I am most looking forward to. I can’t wait to see what craziness Waititi has in store for us, and the re-energized Chris Hemsworth.
What do you think of Waititi’s comments? Are you happy Thor: Love and Thunder makes Ragnarok look really safe? Leave it below in the usual spot.
