It looks like the next stop for director Taika Waititi will be the high seas. As he is set to direct the pilot for a new HBO Max series centered around pirates. The comedy series, titled Our Flag Means Death, is created by David Jenkins who will also produce. Waititi will executive prouduce as well as helming the pilot episode. You can find a general descripttion of the series below.
“Loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.”

HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey:
“A series concept like this jumps off the page and you can instantly envision every moment. David and Taika’s unique take on Bonnet’s rollicking misadventures on the high seas, are sure to thrill and delight audiences everywhere.”
I was wondering what Waititi’s next project would be after Thor: Love and Thunder. And while a swashbuckling comedy series isn’t the first thought to come to mind, I do think it’s a perfect fit for him and I am looking forward to the series. Waititi revitalized Marvel’s Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok. Implementing a whole new tone of fun and humor that both audiences and critics loved. Waititi is no stranger to comedy as he has a series on FX called What We Do in the Shadows about vampires.
As I said above this should be a really good fit for Waititi. His involvement alone gives me high hopes for the series.
