You gotta love the versatility of filmmakers. Someone like Taika Waititi could make something like Thor: Ragnarok — a crowd-pleasing action blockbuster — before turning his attention to a more indie-like Jojo Rabbit. Even crazier, he does so without losing his trademark ridiculous comedy fans have grown to love. 

We’ve known the basic story of Jojo Rabbit for a while, but the new trailer really digs into the core issue, which revolves around young German boy Jojo, whose mother takes in a Jewish girl in the thick of dangerous blind nationalism during World War II. Check out the trailer below:

Below is the official synopsis for Jojo Rabbit:

Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as JoJo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.

Don’t know about you, but looking at this, I almost see the whole “kid” angle of this as a metaphor, meaning that these kids really aren’t kids. Instead, they are adults who relinquish all responsibility for their actions and follow blindly…or it could just be a quirky little comedy.
