Tenet finally puts inversion front-and-center.
Christopher Nolan is all about keeping them secrets. I feel like whenever going into any of his films, we have very little idea of what to expect. Even with his Batman movies, there was a lot of mystery going into them as to what they would actually be about — but the mystery is heightened in these original movies he produces. Now, we have the incredibly odd film Tenet to look forward to.
But what in the world is it about? We saw hints of the premise in the first trailers, with the look of certain characters and objects playing backwards. We’ve even seen hints of that in the title — Tenet — which is a palindrome. And then there was the occasional comment from Robert Pattinson, who constantly played up the mind-bending nature of the film. But there’s been very little in terms of actual exposition. Now, in the latest Chinese trailer, we have what I think is our first look.

As you can see in the trailer, it features an introduction from Nolan himself, though the exposition doesn’t come from him. In the actual clip itself, one of the character explains the act of being inverted. I’m not really sure how, but the main characters have created a process that allows them to be inverted — while the rest of the world around them continues moving forward like normal.
I know it shouldn’t have taken me this long, but it’s ironic that the first trailer that has me excited for the film is for a foreign market. Now, I’m actually lamenting the fact that I probably won’t be watching the film in a theater any time soon.
What about you? Does this Tenet trailer’s inclusion of the inversion mechanic make it a little better for you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
