Besides the moderate but forgettable hits that were the Expendables films, Arnold’s post-governing career has been anything but stellar. That hasn’t kept movie producers from camping on his lawn with fresh scripts ready to go, though. Despite the recent films’ general “ho humness,” the one opportunity that fans are always willing to give Arnold another shot in is the Terminator franchise. While Terminator Genisys was mostly a misfire critically (25% on Rotten Tomatoes), the film made bank internationally, grossing a solid $440 million worldwide. Now, both Arnie and producer/director James Cameron are talking about Terminator 6.
Speaking to TheArnoldFans, Cameron said:
“There has to have been a guy whose DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumibly was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”

Hmmm, it certainly seems like Cameron has a specific direction he’d like to explore, and allowing Arnold to play a human that the original T-800 is based on definitely leaves room for a quality character and will hopefully set up the inevitable old human Arnold vs CGI young Arnold Terminator confrontation we all didn’t know we wanted but now want really bad. Arnold himself, speaking with The Playlist, confirmed his appearance, stating he’d be shooting Terminator 6 in March of next year. Then again, he’s just an actor, so I’d take it with a grain of salt, as director Tim Miller (who is supposedly helming the film) has his schedule quickly filling up.
I’m not sure if I’m excited for another Terminator movie, but the direction of this one might serve as a good endpoint for the franchise, bringing everything full circle for the T-800’s story. If news of Terminator 6 doesn’t get your foaming at the mouth, perhaps you’ll be happy to know Schwarzenegger will soon be see in another Conan movie. And if your speed is a little more “family comedy,” then get hyped: Arnold also confirmed he’s shooting Triplets, with Danny DeVito and Eddie Murphy. The only way I’m excited for that movie is if the T-800 shows up in more than a cameo role.
