Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote Gets Official Trailer, Pigs Fly

I know what you’re thinking. The Man Who Killed Don Quixote? Isn’t that the one movie that’s super famous for never getting made? Yes. Yes it is. This is a movie that’s taken a solid 20 years to reach the silver screen. The film initially began pre-production back in 1998, which is obviously a long time ago, but to put it into perspective, the man who was set to play Toby Grisoni — who is currently portrayed by Adam Driver — was a young and spritely Johnny Depp.

The film even began production but hit a number of issues such as flooding, financial issues, insurance issues, and pretty much every problem under the sun. There was even a whole documentary that chronicled the doomed original production called Lost in La Mancha, which was released in 2002.

So yeah, it’s been a minute. After all these years, the movie is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this coming May, but before that, we have our first peek at the actual trailer for the film. As expected from a Terry Gilliam flick, it’s every bit as magical, odd, and quirky as one would expect.

The film follows an old man (Jonathan Pryce) who is convinced that he’s actually Don Quixote — never mind that the film takes place in modern times (there is a shot of a car in the trailer, as well as a dude in normal attire). But as advertising exec Toby Grisoni (Adam Driver) gets caught up in his adventure, he becomes more caught up in the man’s delusions himself.

What do you think of this first look at the film? Let us know your thoughts down below!
