Tessa Thompson has done a great job making a name for herself in Hollywood. She has been seen in Thor: Ragnarok, Creed and Westworld. Also is Mark Millar’s first choice as who he would want to play thew new Kick-Ass when asked a while back.

Now according to Variety Thompson has signed on to portray a woman named Doris Payne. She is infamous for her luxury heist around the world. The film is being made as a high concept action drama in the same line as films like Catch Me if You Can and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Along with starring in the film, Thompson will also produce the film with Codeblack Films’, which is part of Lionsgate, Jeff Clanagan. This film is being made after Codeblack was able to acquire the rights to Payne’s life story.

Payne, who is currently 87 years old and in prison, had a six-decade-long criminal career. She would enter jewelry stores posing as a “well to do woman” looking for a diamond ring. She would charm her way into making the clerk careless enough to forget how many pieces were out on the counter, which is where she would make her move. Her criminal career goes all the way back to the 50’s, through which times she has been arrested several times and has even admitted to using twenty aliases, ten social security numbers and nine dates of birth.
