Like seems to happen with every Star Wars cartoon, The Bad Batch does get better as it goes on. I could not stand The Clone Wars movie, nor most of Season 1. With Rebels it was the latter half of Season 2 before it suddenly improved. Now also, with the finale of Season 2 hitting this week, I think we can say The Bad Batch has followed a similar trend, for now.
I was not impressed by TBB Season 1, a few decent episodes aside. I was also not loving the early episodes of Season 2 and the highlights were all the Crosshair episodes. However it was all connected, and as Season 2 progresses towards its finale, things get darker, and darker. That’s when Star Wars animation truly shines for me. There are some real gut punches in Season 2 and they are played very well. I’ve found myself really enjoying the show the last 5-6 weeks overall.
At the same time, you feel like just around the corner there is always potential for the filler episode where the team go exploring, Omega gets into trouble and they have to save her. If that’s the premise of one of the episodes then I just switch off and don’t care. Season 1 did not have enough good to outweigh the bad. However once again, towards the end of season 2 things have picked up. I now genuinely want to follow this story.

What happens to the Clone rebellion, did end up joining the Rebellion in years to come, or did they eventually get wiped out by the Empire? Also, what the hell is Hemlock (horrible name by the way) actually trying to do? I thought he wanted Omega for whatever was special about her. However, it seems he isn’t aware of that and just wanted Omega to put pressure on the only living Kaminoan left. Surely Hemlock is not trying to create Clones for the Emperor? That seems far too soon, and therefore I wonder what he is planning for his cloning experiments?
If you had asked me to talk about The Bad Batch a few episodes into Season 2 I’d have said no. There was nothing worth talking about. However, I think I may call myself a fan (if this level of quality maintains into Season 3). That’s a shocker for me.
So, Season 2 starts poorly, but ends very strongly. Perhaps it is worth checking out The Bad Batch again? Like seems to happen with every Star Wars cartoon, The Bad Batch does get better as it goes on. As always, lets us know what you think below.
