The Batman 2 Announced As In Development At CinemaCon

The Batman Part 2 has been delayed until 2026, specifically October 2, 2026, a whole year later than originally planned.

This will come as no surprise to anyone as The Batman 2 announced as in development at CinemaCon yesterday. In the WB/D presentation the studio celebrated the success of Matt Reeves The Batman by announcing that the director would return for a sequel, as would star Robert Pattinson. LRM was not present at CinemaCon but you can check the report from Deadline who were in attendance.

I think most fans who saw The Batman enjoyed it from what I can tell, I certainly did. It seemed a sure fire bet that the movie would get at least one, perhaps multiple sequels. However Reeves has to this point always been cautious when discussing the possibilities.

Now we know The Batman 2 is a go. No details were shared, not even a timeline for production on the movie. Therefore we are firmly in speculation territory here. Given that The Batman script took Reeves quite some time to get right, I’m guessing it may be a while before we hear about production start dates and possible release dates for the sequel.

As for where the story could go? I imagine the possibilities are very open right now. Reeves has previously indicated the inclusion of Barry Keoghan’s pre-Joker does NOT mean that character would be the villain of a sequel. However I guess it remains a possibility. The Gotham situation is potentially leading towards a story like the No Man’s Land comic run. However that doesn’t mean the movie will definitely go in that direction either. I think the only villain we can probably rule out right now is Riddler. Well, rule him out as the main villain of the movie anyway as we’ve been there and done that.

Penguin could take on a main antagonist role this time, especially as the crime boss is getting his own HBO Max series. Equally there are hints towards other potential villains like Hush unless our bat eyes deceive us. Who knows for sure, but I cannot wait to find out. I’d rate The Batman as my third fave Batman movie to date so far. I still put Batman Begins and TDK ahead of The Batman. However I think it was a better movie than TDKR or any of the Keaton era movies.

That’s not bad company though and I’ll be there opening weekend for The Batman 2. It is also possible the title for this movie will change once Reeves has a script together, but for now the studio is simply referring to the sequel as The Batman 2.

Are you excited that The Batman 2 announced as in development and that Reeves and Pattinson will return? Thoughts below as always bat fans, feel free to discuss anything CinemaCon related.
