The Batman 2 Will Remain Focused On Bruce Wayne Says Director Matt Reeves

In a recent social media post DC co-boss James Gunn debunks recent The Batman 2 villain and Dick Grayson rumors.

The Batman 2 will remain focused on Bruce Wayne says director Matt Reeves in a recent interview. Reeves spoke with Collider, and we covered some of what he said previously in the related section below. Reeves is still writing the script to the sequel to his The Batman movie. However one thing Reeves is keen to do is retain the focus on Bruce/Batman in this sequel.

Here is what Reeves had to say.

“To me, the thing that I really feel is that I also believe that Rob [Pattinson] is so special in the role. My goal has always been to do these point-of-view stories that allow the character to always be the emotional center of the story. Because a lot of times what happens is, after you do the first one, then suddenly other Rogues Gallery characters come in, and they kind of take over, and then Batman takes a backseat sort of character-wise, or emotionally.”

“I actually think that through the plan of what these stories are that I want to tell, there is an epic sort of sweep of the development of that character.”

I’m not sure the narrative that Batman films focus on his rogue’s gallery is really accurate these days. Sure, we can say for certain that happened in Burton’s Batman Returns and then the Schumacher camp fests. However I would not say the villains became the focus of The Dark Knight trilogy and prior to that all we had was the Adam West movie. I therefore kinda feel like every Batman director says this, even though realistically the only other one that could have is Chris Nolan.

The Batman certainly told the story from Batman’s point of view and I liked that in the movie. We knew what Bats knew and we learned details as he learned them. Still, part of the attraction of Batman as a character is that he has one of the best rogues gallery of any superhero. I always say, for me, Batman and Spider-Man have all the best villains across both comic book universes. However that is subjective.

However this version of Batman is certainly not the finished article. Therefore we have a lot mote development to come, that’s for sure.

What do you think of Matt Reeves comments as he says The Batman 2 will remain focused on Bruce Wayne? As always, share our thoughts below.
