The Batman | Gil Perez-Abraham On Gotham PD’s Perception Of Batman [Exclusive]

The Batman

No doubt that we are all excited for the premiere of The Batman this week. Matt Reeves’s vision of The Dark Knight will take flight with Robert Pattinson as the pop culture icon Bruce Wayne. From what we have seen so far we are going to get a younger less experienced Batman in this film. One that is still figuring out the right way to protect Gotham City from criminals.

It’s important to talk about the relationships that Batman forms throughout the years. Particularly the relationships that he develops with the Gotham Police Department. Many writers have provided different perspectives on how law enforcement officers viewed the vigilante justice of The Batman. Some of them see it as a public service and a tool to get to criminals that in some cases would be out of their reach. While others look at him as someone that disrespects the badge by consistently getting in the way of them doing their job. One other common thought is that just by the Batman existing, he creates violent criminals that put officers’ lives in danger.

Here is the synopsis for The Batman

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures. The lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations. A trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld. Where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear. Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
