We seem to be careening towards an eventual casting announcement and production start date with The Batman. After years of anticipation and waiting, it may not be long before we have another actor taking on the cowl as the Caped Crusader of Gotham in Matt Reeves’ upcoming standalone film. When last we heard, Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were in the running for the role…but who would come out on top? Well, it sounds like even Warner Bros. doesn’t know…yet…
According to TheWrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, the duo are currently going through screen testing in the Batsuit. Here’s what he had to say.
“BATMAN UPDATE: Robert Pattinson & Nicholas Hoult are screen testing for the role. I suspect they’re screen testing in the Batsuit because Wardrobe Department will need full wardrobe test. Additionally, the film will now start production in Q1 2020.”

This news may disappoint some fans, as late 2019 was thrown out there as a potential start date for it. With Matt Reeves seemingly taking their time here, it looks like 2020 is the more realistic expectation. That being said, it’s probably a good thing. After the rough start of the DCEU, Warner Bros. knows there’s a lot riding on getting this take right.
