The CW’s Black Lightning returned this week for it’s third season. While all the talk has been about how this show’s characters are going to finally be crossing over with the rest of the Arrowverse’s characters during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event later this year, they still have a jam packed third season of story to tell that includes new characters.
Via Deadline we have learned that the Emmy-winning host of Let’s Make A Deal on CBS will play the role of a disaffected super soldier named Tyson “Gravedigger” Sykes on Black Lighting. His character is expected to be a recurring role in early 2020. Producers of the series describe him as a World War II era member of the U.S. military that was transformed into a superhuman fighting machine as a result of secret laboratory experiments. Like most metahumans he has enhanced strength and agility as well as being a tactical genius and hand to hand combat expert. After the war he refused to live in America and defected to Markovia. His goal is to create a sovereign nation for metahumans within Markovia. This of course puts him at odds with ASA and Black Lightning.
Brady is probably best known for is role as a regular member of the show Who’s Line Is It Anyway? but recently has been seen as the host of Let’s Make A Deal. He also had a hilarious skit with Dave Chappell on his show The Chappell Show on Comedy Central. Along with his comedy he has also starred on Broadway as Lola in Kinky Boots and as Aaron Burr in the Chicago production of Hamilton. It will be interesting to see how he does playing a metahuman super solider after seeing him in comedy roles for so long. This is an issue that I had when Jon Cryer was cast as Lex Luther in The CW’s Supergirl as I still always saw him as Allen from Two and a Half Men. As a fan of the Black Lightning series I hope it works out!
