The beauty of many cinematic potential award-winning films is the complete transformations by certain actors. With its earlier trailer debut of Jessica Chastain as the famed televangelist, Tammy Faye was certainly an eye-opener. It catapulted the film The Eyes of Tammy Faye to the top of the list for the award season later this year.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall, and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park and were revered for their message of love, acceptance, and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.

The film stars Jessica Chastain as Tammy Faye Bakker, Vincent D’Onofrio as Jerry Falwell, and Andrew Garfield as Jim Bakker.

Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield immediately put themselves on the top of the list for awards season. The trailer recently released shows the transformation of Jessica Chastain with the aging, accent, and personality of Tammy Faye Bakker. Chastain is already one of the top actresses in the business and this film will cement her powerful acting skills and possibly a nomination. Plus, it helps to portray one of the most and controversial iconic televangelists in history.

It’s too bad we’ll have to wait a bit as The Eyes of Tammy Faye targets its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in early September and then a wide release on September 17.
