As of last night, The CW has officially kicked off the midseason of their superhero offerings with The Flash and Black Lightning. While Barry Allen was facing potential incarceration following the death of DeVoe, Jefferson Pierce was faced with the decision to bring back his alter ego, Black Lightning.

With these episodes finally released, we of course, are already looking towards the second episode of the midseason from each, and The CW is more than happy to oblige.

Things aren’t looking to hot for Barry in this upcoming episode. He’s now detained, and is unable to protect Central City from the threats that are sure to come. When the Flash’s absence leads to another villain resurgence, someone else must fill the void that Barry has left.

Below is the official synopsis for “The Elongated Knight Rises”:

“THE RISE OF THE HERO — When a familiar villain returns to terrorize Central City, Ralph (guest star Hartley Sawyer) must rise up to defend the innocent while Barry (Grant Gustin) is detained by his trial. Meanwhile, Barry searches for the strength to keep his optimism alive in the face of his new circumstances.”

The first episode saw Jefferson Pierce don his old outfit once again. But is that it for Black Lightning? Of course not, otherwise there wouldn’t be an entire show planned around it. After saving his daughters in the first episode, it looks like his hunger for justice has reemerged, and he seems dead-set on making the community safe once again.

Below is the official synopsis for “The Book of Hope.”:

“IS HE BACK? — As the community struggles with the violence surrounding them, a glimmer of hope appears: Is Black Lightning (Cress Williams) back? Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams), noticing the changes in the community, is also left wondering. While Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) struggles with his decision, Gambi (James Remar) urges him to take up the mantle once more and return to life as Black Lightning. Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) try to deal with the aftermath of their jolting experience.”
