The Flash will not feature Atlantean/Amazonian War? Read on for more details of this latest rumor.
As far as anyone can tell, The Flash is going to be an adaptation of the classic ‘Flashpoint’ storyline from the comics. That means Barry Allen going back in time to prevent his mother’s death. The results of Barry’s actions, are a series of changes to the timeline that make Earth far worse for everyone. However, we already know there are going to be some differences in this adaptation.
In the ‘Flashpoint’ story, Bruce Wayne is killed instead of his parents, prompting Thomas Wayne to become Batman and Martha Wayne to become Joker. It appears that plotpoint will change in The Flash. Michael Keaton will instead come back as an older Bruce Wayne in The Flash, if we believe all the reports on this subject. I do buy these stories as they come from some of the big trades and sometimes you just figure there is so much smokel, there has to be a fire somewhere.
Today we have a rumor of another big change to the traditional ‘Flashpoint’ story. According to Heroic Hollywood, their sources have advised them not to expect the war between Atlantis and Amazon. In ‘Flashpoint”s new timeline the Atlantean and Amazonian War threatens to engulf the entire planet in war. Aquaman and Wonder Woman have become bitter enemies and only Barry can fix things. The outlet either doesn’t know, or doesn’t give any further details. So we have no idea what might happen instead of this war between Atlantis and Amazonia? I do have to say, I’m not suprised by this news in the slightest.

If DC were to go with the traditional ‘Flashpoint’ story, they would need Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Henry Cavill. It would definitely feel like more of an ensemble film, which is exactly what the comic book was. ‘Flashpoint’ was more of an event comic rather than a Flash story. I honestly think that would be far too budget heavy to pull off. At least for the first film starring Ezra Miller’s Flash. However, maybe that’s a shame?
In a DCEU that had caught audience’s attention and introduced their characters more slowly, ‘Flashpoint’ could be their version of Civil War. i.e. it would be like Justice League 1.5, in the same way Civil War was like Avengers 2.5. I am therefore expecting something similar to happen in The Flash, but at a much smaller scale. One thing I am excited about, is the fact I don’t know what is going to happen. If ‘Flashpoint’ was being adapted faithfully, then I already know the whole movie before we start. Right now, I have no idea where things are going to go in The Flash, and that’s refreshing.
All we can do is judge The Flash in what hits theaters. Maybe this new approach won’t work as well as I hope? At least audiences are going to be surprised by The Flash though. Remember to take this all with a pinch of salt like any rumor we share. However, as I said above, this news was something I was expecting anyway, so maybe I’m more inclined to buy it as a result.
