Sometimes being a first responder doesn’t get all the action during an emergency situation. In Netflix’s The Guilty, Jake Gyllenhaal is an emergency dispatcher who fields an abduction distress call. It’s a race against time as he tries to save the woman’s life with little information along with a wildfire disaster encompassing the city.
Here’s the logline of the film:
The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger—but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.
Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven) directed The Guilty from a script written by Nic Pizzolatto (HBO’s True Detective).

The trailer is definitely leaving a lot of things out as the storyline does appear to tie everything together with the protagonist. Although The Guilty promo is only promoting Jake Gyllenhaal in the film, it does have other impressive cast members, including Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Ethan Hawke (Training Day), Riley Keough (Mad Max), Peter Sarsgaard (Garden State), and Bill Burr (The King of Staten Island).
Not to mention, it places sometimes action star Jake Gyllenhaal in an office environment, which is also hard to believe. With Antoine Fuqua at the helm, no doubt the film has to be a more intense action film that the trailer left to desire more.
The Guilty is going to be in select theaters on September 24 and a streaming rollout on Netflix on October 1.
