The filmmaker, Robie Flores gives us a glance of what it’s like growing up in the border town with The In Between. We get a tour of Eagle Pass, Texas where she grew up and lived wonderful childhood memories but unfortunately go hand-to-hand with the biggest loss, her brother Marcelo.

The Synopsis
The In Between centers on a Mexican American filmmakers’ return to her border town home in Eagle Pass, Texas. She intends to reconcile with her brother’s death and reflect on the nuance of growing up along the U.S.-Mexico border. Her adventure reflects the long journey, and she rediscovers the beautiful mysteries of her complex hometown and the ways her environment shaped her identity.
The noteworthy documentary, The In Between first made its premiere at SXSW and moved on to several other national and international film festivals. Including the New Orleans Film Festival where it won Best Southern Feature. Flores has worked as an actress, production assistant, editor and producer. With The In Between she breaks into her first feature film as a director and a co-producer with her brother, Alejandro J. Flores who is also a cinematographer.

I had the opportunity to connect with Robie Flores via Zoom to discuss The In Between as it showcases as part of the PBS documentary series. Flores discussed the making of the film and how the archive she found of the late Marcelo helped her healing process, learning more about herself and continuing living with his presence. In addition to how her brothers Alejandro and Paco Flores contributed to creating the perfect moments, life in a border town and more!
