The Joker from Todd Philips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is now in principal photography. Whilst we don’t yet know much about the movie, other than the fact it will deal with the Joker’s origin, we have gotten our first glimpse at Joaquin Phoenix. Check the related section below for a look at the first official photo of Phoenix as Arthur Fleck aka The Joker.

There is more though, as one fan (JNapier) has managed to capture some video of Phoenix in the role, the footage below shows Phoenix’s Fleck laughing at a clown on the streets and then taking off his red nose. Check it out.

The first thing I would say about this small scene is just how creepy Phoenix looks. I really can see definite shades of the Joker in him here, even though this is clearly before the makeup and costume. He gives the impression of being slightly unhinged and that’s a great start to become the completely unhinged and maniacal Joker.
I’m still not sure why this was not just a cool part of the DCEU and so far this appeals to me already more than Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad. Saying that, I don’t think it would be wrong to say that movie needed more of Leto’s Joker to make it work. Overall I am also still unsure about a Joker movie that hints at, but never actually gets to Batman. surely WB can find a way to have this link in with Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman as I’d really like to see what Phoenix would be like in full on Joker mode.
