Hundreds of years ago, people settle their differences on a battlefield in front of a crowd—not by cyberbullying on social media or in a court. Based on a true story, The Last Duel is a historical drama about flying accusations and settling their matters at the end of a lance and sword.
The film stars Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, Ford v Ferrari), Adam Driver (Marriage Story, BlacKkKlansman), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy), Ben Affleck (Argo, Good Will Hunting), and Harriet Walter (Atonement, Sense and Sensibility). Ridley Scott (The Martian, Black Hawk Dawn) directed the movie from a screenplay written by Nicole Holofcener (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) with Affleck and Damon. It is based on a book by Eric Jager.
Here’s the synopsis of the movie:
The Last Duel is a gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance set against the brutality of 14th century France. A cinematic and thought-provoking drama set in the midst of the Hundred Years War, the film explores the ubiquitous power of men, the frailty of justice, and the strength and courage of one woman willing to stand alone in the service of truth. Based on actual events, the film unravels long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends turned bitter rivals.

This film has all the components for a compelling film with a great cast, a terrific director, and an award-winning writer. Hopefully, medieval films capture enough attention from the audiences.
