The Lion King is feeling the love tonight. Tonight, today, and the very near future. Tickets only just went on sale yesterday, but the “live-action” adaptation from Jon Favreau is already making Pride Rock proud. According to Deadline, the Donald Glover-starring flick has taken the title of second best first-day sales in its first 24 hours. The only other movie that’s held a candle to it? I’m sure it’s no surprise it’s Avengers: Endgame.

Yes, that means it’s done better than all the other live-action Disney counterparts, including Aladdin, a film that — after a rocky start in the marketing department — has gone on to gross over $800 million worldwide. It also tops Beauty and the Beast, which broke $1 billion in the year it came out. In short, things are looking good really solid for the film.

The outlet goes on to state that The Lion King’s pre-sales are the best of any non-Marvel, non-Star Wars property ever. At least for Fandango.

Atomo similarly has The Lion King breaking certain records. They have the film easily beating Toy Story 4 and Aladdin. And speaking of Aladdin, The Lion King has sold four times as many tickets as Aladdin in 24 hours and has even outpaced Black Panther, another billion-dollar grosser.

Does this mean The Lion King is poised to crack $1 billion? Honestly, I’d be surprised if it didn’t.
