The first domestic trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has been unveiled, offering fans a glimpse into the latest addition to J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved Middle-earth saga. The upcoming anime fantasy film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set to explore the epic story of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary king of Rohan, and the fierce battle to defend his kingdom.

Produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation, The War of the Rohirrim serves as a prequel to Peter Jackson’s acclaimed The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, taking place 183 years before the events of those films. The story, based on details from the appendices of Tolkien’s novel, delves into the rich history of Rohan’s rulers, focusing on the trials faced by Helm Hammerhand, portrayed by Brian Cox, and his family as they stand against an invading army of Dunlendings..

The trailer showcases the film’s striking traditional 2D animation, crafted by Sola Entertainment, with visual inspiration drawn heavily from Jackson’s films. Fans will also recognize the voice of Miranda Otto, who reprises her role as Éowyn, lending a familiar touch to the new production. Joining Otto are a talented cast, including Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Laurence Ubong Williams, and Shaun Dooley.
