This past weekend, Lucasfilm held a press event that included a press conference and screening of footage from their upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian. There has been a lot of fanfare surrounding the show. Not only is it Star Wars, but it’s the first live-action series to hit — and it looks to be all kinds of violent and mature in the vein of great Spaghetti Westerns of yesteryear.
But is it any good? There were plenty of lucky press folk in attendance for, including our own Daniel Tafoya and James Burns. There were reactions aplenty…and what did they think?
Well, here was a reaction from Daniel, who while a fan, isn’t what one would call a Star Wars die-hard.
The 27 minutes of footage was action packed and intense. From bar fights to monster brawls, it got me hooked. The look is cinematic, with high quality special effects. Also, has a sense of humor and as an added bonus, Werner Herzog! – Daniel Tafoya pic.twitter.com/0pUjv4C8pG

Next up comes from James, who IS a diehard — so much so that he created a fan poster for The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau (and Favreau bought it!).
The Mandalorian Footage was AMAZING. This is the future of Star Wars!!!

They weren’t the only ones heaping praise. Here are some of the others who have seen the footage.
Just watched 27 minutes of Mandalorian footage and legit cried. Can’t say much but — This is real and it’s happening and it feels SO FREAKING STAR WARS pic.twitter.com/A56KJBc1GH

Saw ~27 minutes of #TheMandalorian footage this morning. Always difficult to make sense of a bunch of disconnected scenes but it looks intense, surprisingly dark and very expensive.

Also it looks as expensive as it is — they didn’t skimp with this one. Spaceships, creatures, etc all in full effect. Cannot wait for full episodes. #TheMandalorian

Saw almost 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian footage this morning. It's truly incredible. It looks like the films, feels innately Star Wars, introduces new concepts, and adds layers that people have been waiting to see for a long time. pic.twitter.com/4JVB16pMAL

In short, things are looking great in a galaxy far, far away, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney leans hard into this approach for the other future Star Wars projects.
