The New Mutants could be the shortest Mutant movie to date.
Long movies are great. I love long movies when earned. There’s nothing like diving into a different world for an extended period of time. It often gives me time to get truly invested in the secondary world. Yes, it has the power bore, but films like Avengers: Endgame have proven that even three-hour-long movies can actually feel fairly short. All the same, I’d be lying if I said the occasional short movie wasn’t refreshing. In an era where practically every film is north of two hours, anything south of that is refreshing.
It’s because of this that this news of The New Mutants is especially refreshing. The film has surfaced on Consumer Protection BC, a regulator in the U.S., and it comes bearing runtime information. According to them, The New Mutants runs at a brisk 94 minutes. That’s one hour and 34 minutes in length — likely including credits!

This makes it, by far, the shortest Mutant-centric movie to date. The shortest up until that point have been the original X-Men and X-Men: The Last Stand, which both ran at 104 minutes. Conversely, The New Mutants is 50 minutes shorter than X-Men: Apocalypse, which is the longest one to date, sitting at 144 minutes.
Of course, this is assuming this news is true. By this point, I’m sure the film is 100% done — after all, it was set to hit theaters four days ago. However, with it being pushed back once again in the wake of the coronavirus, who knows when this thing will actually hit. Given how close The New Mutants actually was to coming out, I’d wager this was probably true — or at least close to it.
If so, how would you feel about the film’s runtime? Are you happy to see The New Mutants running at a short 94 minutes? Sound off in the comments down below!
