The Petition To Get Mark Hamill A Role In Indiana Jones 5 & Its Origin

There is now a petition online to reunite Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill by getting Hamill a role in Indiana Jones 5.

Though my editor chose this story, I do have a funny connection to its origin, so let me elaborate…

BUT, first HERE is the link to the petition in question, in case I lose you with my personal tale.

A few weeks ago, the creator of this petition, James Burns @GoodFightCinema on twitter) criticized my column about who to cast as Indiana after Spielberg’s comments that Indiana Jones would be plated by another actor, possibly a woman, after Indiana Jones 5. Of course, James and I are both huge Indiana Jones fans, so we became quick friends on Twitter, liking each other’s tweets as twitter friends do.

I guess there was a rumor or suggestion online that Mark Hamill join Indy 5 sometime after that; I had seen speak of it before even the petition was made.

On April 26, James tweeted and I responded:

And boom! James did all the work with a little prodding.

I shared it and (again) boom, I got my first like from Mark Hamill on twitter, @HamillHimself. (That last part was just bragging.)

Point being, this isn’t actually about myself, this is about a great casting decision for Indiana Jones 5 and a chance to reunite the actors as they never were in Star Wars.

James Burns puts it best himself on the actual petition:

“The recent sequel trilogy failed to be the reunion Star Wars fans have dreamt of since Return of the Jedi. Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford had zero screen time together as Luke and Han, and now, with both characters meeting their demise, there is no chance they ever will, unless…

Mark Hamill appears in the next Indiana Jones film.

Indiana Jones 5 has been confirmed for summer 2020 and fans of both franchises have pointed at the possibility of Mark Hamill stepping into the Marcus Brody archetype, made famous by the late Denholm Elliott and filled by Jim Broadbent in the fourth installment of the series. Mark’s Character in Kingsman: The Secret Service is a perfect example of his range as a character actor, not to mention his endless list of voice credits on all our favorite animated works.

These two titans of popular culture mean so much to us as fans and, whether it be a cameo or actual sidekick role, let’s show Lucasfilm that we want Mark and Harrison to share the screen for one last adventure!”

Do petitions like this really work? Usually not. But, this isn’t the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, Hamill does exist. So, why not sign the petition if you want to see the same?

Do you like the idea of Mark Hamill being a peer of Jones in Indiana Jones 5? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!
