PlayStation 5 details delayed.

Life is kind of sucking right now. I’m not sure if you’ve been keeping up with the news, but yeah, things are pretty crappy. And when it comes to the world of entertainment, there’s a fine line companies have to walk. Of course, in many ways, entertainment is great. It helps keeps us distracted and brings levity to an otherwise demoralizing existence. At the same time, they have to know when to take a step back and reassess whether or not the current climate is one to make big announcements. This is very much the case with Sony.

Last week, it was revealed that they would be showing off details about the PlayStation 5. Given how little we’ve seen of the next-gen console, this was a welcome response from the console manufacturer, and we waited on pins and needles. With this announcement, we would finally have details surrounding BOTH upcoming consoles in the next generation. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

With the state of the real world as it is and the Black Lives Matters protest taking the world by storm, it looks like Sony has opted to respect the gravitas of world events. PlayStation’s official Twitter account sent out the following message.

“We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4.

While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is the time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

I have to say, this is a great way to read the room, Sony. While I’m sure there are plenty of fans out there who are sad to see this announcement, I respect the decision. And there are a good many more out there who respect the decision as well, and are content to sit back and wait for the details at a more appropriate time.
