The Prodigy’s New Trailer Brings The Creepy Kid Trope To Screen In Spades.

While we had a cool teaser trailer back in October for The Prodigy, this new one really helps to shed a light on the actual story we can expect from the film. That original teaser showed Miles sitting in the room with a hypnotist, who seemed to believe there was someone else inside of Miles other than Miles himself. Of course, that in and of itself is pretty creepy, but this trailer helps to bring more meaningful context to the story.

From this new trailer, it seems clear (at least to me) that they aren’t going for the cheap scares here, nor will they shortchange the character development. Miles isn’t just a creepy kid. He’s an incredibly smart kid who is having trouble connecting with others, which could potentially lead to him doing downright horrible things. I do expect there to be a supernatural element when all said and done, but I don’t think it will be as played up as the first teaser hinted at, and hopefully, that can lead to a much more creatively-fulfilling story.

Below is the official synopsis for The Prodigy:

“In her much-anticipated foray into the horror-thriller genre, Taylor Schilling stars in THE PRODIGY as Sarah, a mother whose young son Miles’ disturbing behavior signals that an evil, possibly supernatural force has overtaken him. Fearing for her family’s safety, Sarah must grapple with her maternal instinct to love and protect Miles in favor of investigating what – or who – is causing his dark turn. She is forced to look for answers in the past, taking the audience on a wild ride; one where the line between perception and reality remains blurry.”

What do you think of this new trailer for The Prodigy? Are you as optimistic as I am about its potential character development, or is this just another drop in the bucket of horror films hitting in 2019? Throw your comments down below!

The Prodigy hits theaters on February 8, 2019.
