Season two of Netflix’s The Punisher is only a few weeks away. With that said we haves started to see promotional clips and posters to promote the next season featuring Billy Russo, played by Ben Barnes. If you can recall from the end of the first season of The Punisher, Frank Castle, played by John Bernthal, slammed Russo’s head into a carousel mirror several times causing him to have major facial reconstruction surgery. The streaming service has released a clip of Russo in therapy after he had the surgery titled Therapy Sessions 1 & 2 check it out above!

The clip features a masked Russo having a session with a therapist played by Floriana Lima. She asks him, “What face do you want the world to see?”. Clearly, Russon has revenge on his mind, at that point destined to become the classic Punisher villain Jigsaw. A villain that was featured in the 2008 feature film Punisher: War Zone, where he was played by Dominic West.

It is important to note that although the character is obviously Jigsaw, he will not ever be referred to as Jigsaw throughout the second season of The Punisher. This is because the term Jigsaw would be used more in a metaphorical way instead of a nickname according to Barnes, who clarified this in a past interview with Collider. He said that, “He’s trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is. There is the metaphor at one point that his brain is the jigsaw that he’s trying put the pieces back together of.”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as we have seen the Netflix Marvel series take a very grounded approach to their characters. For example in the latest season of Daredevil, we were introduced to Benjamin Poindexter, played by Wilson Bethel, who was obliviously Bullseye, although he was never called that throughout the 3rd season. As good as the second season of The Punisher may be, it is being overshadowed by the fear that the series may be cancelled as soon as the season drops in a few weeks.

The second season of The Punisher stars Bernthal, Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Jason R Moore, Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, Gioria Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, Annette O’Toole and Deborah Ann Woll.

Here is the synopsis for the season two of The Punisher:

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as The Punisher.
