It’s been just under a week since The Punisher‘s second season hit Netflix, and I can tell you what, it almost feels like Netflix has gone out of their way to bury the damn thing. I can’t speak for anyone else out there, but I’ve had to actively search for the show to find it on the streaming service — and this is a service that has little problem pushing Tidying Up With Marie Kondo at me from every direction (though that may say more about me than anything else).
The same can be said of at least one other LRM writer, who also had to actively search out the show in order to watch it. And given how quickly Netflix was to announce the cancellation of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil, we’re all just waiting for the announcement to come. But will it?
According to the analytics company Jumpshot (via Business Insider), which tracks 100 million devices to help deliver viewer insight. According to them, there was a 40% dropoff in viewership from The Punisher‘s first season to its second. While that may sound all kinds of awful, there is a potential silver lining.

The aforementioned Marvel shows reported north of 60% dropoffs in their viewership, with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil‘s dropoffs numbering 63%, 69%, and 61%, respectively. The crazy thing is that this means the most recent season of The Punisher — at least according to Jumpshot — has had higher numbers than the most recent season of every Netflix show, including Jessica Jones.
So will The Punisher get canceled? You know, it may very well not, especially since Jessica Jones managed a less successful second season than The Punisher and still got a third season — at least by these metrics, which aren’t exactly pioneered by Netflix, who is very protective of its numbers.
