The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is underway, and there will be changes as the show sets new directors. Plus we have some more casting news for Season 2 to share. First though, Amazon Studios announced the new directors who will bring the Season 2 vision to life just yesterday. Our information comes from Deadline‘s coverage.
The only director returning from Season 1 is Charlotte Brandstrom who directed both ‘Udun’ and ‘The Eye’ in Season 1. However joining Brandstrom are Sanaa Hamri, and Louise Hooper. Each of the filmmakers will be at the helm of multiple episodes for season two. It is now confirmed that Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, just like Season 1.
Hamri just recently directed and executive produced some of The Wheel of Time Season 2 for Amazon. You’ll probably recognize Hooper as one of the directors on The Witcher starring Henry Cavill. The rest of the top brass on the show are as follows. Executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-executive producer Charlotte Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Andrew Lee, Matthew Penry-Davey, and Clare Buxton. Of course returning are showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.
As for where the show goes next, I really don’t know? There were some aspects of Season 1 of the show I loved. The visuals, the music, the casting was all great. However I did have some serious concerns with the story. Especially details that were just added to the mythology because, why not?
I seriously doubt I’m going to end up loving the show overall when it’s finished. However, who knows, perhaps Season 2 will capture my attention? There were moments in Season 1 where I felt this team really got the Tolkien world. Sadly this was followed by some moments where I felt they didn’t.
For now, we have no release date for The Rings of Power Season 2 as it’s still filming for a while yet in the U.K. However it is expected that Amazon want to get Season 2 out as quickly as possible. Therefore, 2024 seems like the best bet for release, though when in that year, I could not guess.
As for that new casting news? Kevin Eldon, Calam Lynch, Selina Lo, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, and William Chubb have all been cast, as reported by Empire Online. As with the other casting news for Season 2, the outlet has no idea about which characters they will play. This is just the latest casting news for Season 2 and you can find more in the related link above.
