Check out this first The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power teaser trailer from Super Bowl last night. This is the first true glimpse we have had into what Amazon has planned for The Rings of Power. As far as teasers go this is the kind that uses a lot of quick cuts so you have to watch it back many times on slow motion. It’s difficult to fully catch everything and place it in context. However there are certainly a few details we can match up to either lore, or previous leaks. Check it out.
I think the voice over here is from one of the Harfoot’s (Hobbits) as likely is the little hand seen on the trailer image above. We get to see plenty of Galadriel who is said to be one of the lead characters in the show. It also looks like we are definitely getting a scene of Galadriel crossing the Helcraxe. For those scratching their heads, this is the parts with Galadriel wrapped up in the snowy mountain, clinging to cliffs and fighting what I’m guessing is one of Tolkien’s ‘unnamed creatures’ brought to life. It’s also worth noting if following the books that Galadriel crossed the Helcraxe in the First Age, not the Second Age. Therefore all those Galadriel scenes could be First Age flashback.
I also think we get to see at least one other First Age shot in this trailer and that’s the small cut to many Elves in golden armor and one Elven character screaming out. Given where the story begins. I have a hard time thinking this is a Second Age battle yet, and is more likely some kind of flashback to possibly Finrod, Galadriel’s eldest brother.

In what is most certainly the prettiest shot of the trailer it looks like this is a port in Numenor. Numenor is the world’s greatest military power during this Age. As such we are seeing the forefathers of Gondor in their prime here and it looks the part.
I get the feeling that the structure of The Rings of Power will be similar to Game of Thrones. Not the actual tone or plot in any way, no I mean a story told across many parts of the same shared world at the same time. The events of the Second Age will be played out across the whole of Middle-earth. As such we will see main characters from any different locations. So far I have to admire the quality of the visuals shown. However a quick teaser like this only allows us to appreciate the visuals, not the script, acting, or structure. Therefore, I’m intrigued, but definitely want to see more before I get too excited. I guess that’s the purpose of a teaser?
