We know that the Stormtrooper that was manipulated by Rey in The Force Awakens was James Bond actor Daniel Craig. We also know that Tom Hardy played a First Order Stormtrooper that has an interaction with Finn, but that scene was left on the cutting room floor. Now we’re getting rumors that The Rise of Skywalker will have not one, not two, but three celebrities putting on the famous armor.
Making Star Wars has received word from a trusted source that Ed Sheeran (singer) will have a cameo as well as chef Jamie Oliver. Neither of those is really that big of a deal for fans. I am sure they are either close to J.J. Abrams or maybe life long fans of Star Wars, but their connection to geekdom is not as deep as the third name on this list. The third trooper is said to be none other than Stephen Colbert.
Colbert is a fan favorite from his time on The Daly Show and The Colbert Report and is known to be a big geek. Him putting on the armor must be a life long dream come true. I wonder if it’s akin to Simon Pegg being the alien junker in The Force Awakens.
I do think it’s cool, and agree with MSW, that we get these cameos without them being detracting. It’s a nice way to give celebrity fans a chance to be a part of the galaxy far, far away without making a big deal about it on screen.
