The Russos Interested In Directing Batman For DCU But Rumors Say Not The Next Movie

After much speculation it seems the Russos were in early talks to direct Kevin Feige's Star Wars movie after all.

The Russos are interested in directing Batman for James Gunn’s DCU they say. However recent rumors suggest that a director as already been found for The Brave and the Bold, the first Batman movie in the DCU. Now, the Russos recently spoke with ComicBook and talked about the possibility of directing Batman. What did not happen, and is being misreported by many outlets, is them saying they’re interested in directing The Brave and the Bold. See for yourself.

“We don’t get asked a lot about DC characters,” Anthony began.

“Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer,” Joe continued. “We love him to death. We love the direction he’s going to take that world in. You know he’s gonna be inventive with it. And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I  always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three —  were Spider-Man. X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer.”

“But, you know, it’s hard not to answer that,” Anthony added.  “Here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it’s been well explored.”

I think you can see that’s very different from ‘OMG, the Russos want to direct The Brave and the Bold‘.

The related section above will tell you a rumor that The Flash director Andy Muschietti has already signed on. No, the Russos won’t be directing that movie I doubt. However, perhaps they could be tempted to do a Batman movie in the future? As much as the brothers seem keen on the character, they also realize that there’s little (not nothing) new left to bring with Bats. Therefore it does not feel like a definite desire at this point. Just a love of Batman himself.

I always figured that the Russos and their writing partners in AGBO would return to the MCU for Secret Wars. A movie they had already expressed the desire to come back for. However, we already know Michael Waldron is writing Secret Wars and it would seem to me had the Russos been getting the gig then Markus and McFeeley would be writing. Then again, there are rumors Secret Wars will end up being a two part movie. Therefore if true, perhaps the Russos could come in for part 2? That’s only rumors though for now.

As for the DCU, if I was James Gunn and Peter Safran, I’d be on the phone to AGBO ASAP. The team made four consistently good MCU movies. Who knows, maybe they will eventually?

The Russos are interested in directing Batman for James Gunn’s DCU. However it likely won’t be something that goes anywhere anytime soon and they never mentioned The Brave and the Bold. As always, leave your thoughts below in the usual spot.
