I respect Illumination Entertainment. In a world where big studios like Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks Animation go all-out with budgets that break $200 million and box office hauls that crack $1 billion, it’s nice that we have one that is willing to take a much more low-key approach with budgets that generally fall under $80 million. And what’s more, it’s nice to see them compete with the other studios in their overall box office haul.
That being said, they aren’t perfect, and while I do enjoy some of their films like Sing, the majority have been a bit of a miss for me. But perhaps the biggest miss of all was the Secret Life of Pets. What was pitched to audiences as a sort of Toy Story for dogs became a really weird story that didn’t really succeed on an emotional or comedic level for me. But can this second film make up for that?
Maybe. The studio has released a new trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2 that focuses on Max (voiced by Patton Oswalt, who takes over for Louis C.K. following the sexual misconduct allegations) and his trip to the vet with his owner. He interacts with the other pets in the waiting room with pretty funny results.
But what do you think of this new trailer? Let us know your thoughts down below!
