The Villain Of The Marvels Revealed? Unconfirmed Rumor | Barside Buzz

According to the latest Barside Buzz, The Marvels has a very short runtime when compared to almost any MCU movie.

Is the villain of The Marvels revealed? There was a rumor posted by Murphy’s Multiverse that alludes to a possible answer to this question. However it should be pointed out that this was covered only as rumor by the outlet. Therefore they have not managed to verify this information enough to call it an exclusive. Still, Murphy usually gets good information, so it’s worth looking at anyway right?

Murphy says the villain of The Marvels is played by Zawe Ashton. However as to what character she is playing, Murphy has heard it might be an obscure Kree General from the comics. Here is exactly what was said, so there’s no confusion.

I heard that Ashton’s character, described by the trades as the villain of The Marvels, is loosely based on an incredibly minor Kree comic character named Ael-Dan, who has appeared and/or is referenced in a total of 3 comics. In those appearances, General Ael-Dan works in tandem with a General Dar-Benn to assassinate the sitting emperor and then take his place. Their great reign ended during Operation Galactic Storm when they were killed by Deathbird of the Shi’ar. Ashton’s character in The Marvels is a gender-swapped take on this character which means that for all intents and purposes, she’s playing an original character. I’ve heard the character described as both the Kree Emperor and a Kree general. In the comics, both are true and I can’t confirm if Ashton’s character will be one or the other or both in the film.

I’m guessing even the most ardent comic fans have never heard much of this character. However as Murphy goes on to say, the character is kinda irrelevant. The important part is that the villains are the Kree Empire once more. Whether Ashton is playing a General or an Empress it seems likely she is in charge of the Kree. What plans the Kree have against Carol or her companions remains to be seen. However it also seems unlikely the Kree would just have forgotten about Carol. Captain Marvel was active ‘off-screen’ through most of the MCU. However she was active and probably ran into the Kree many more times.

In my own mind I want to see a very cosmic sequel in The Marvels as opposed to one spent on Earth. I think to really see Carol use her powers to the fullest we need a Star Wars like landscape for her to operate in. However, that’s not quite where I’d expect to see Kamala Khan I admit, and we know Ms. Marvel is also present. I guess we will find on February 17th, 2023?

Is the villain of The Marvels revealed? Or, do you think there will end up being more context to this rumor as time passes? Leave any thoughts or predictions on this Barside Buzz below.
