The Wheel Of Time Nabs This Outlander Star, Among Others

Another week, another Wheel of Time casting update. Amazon Prime has been hard at work adapting the Robert Jordan-written series, and the marketing team has been working overtime. News has never been short in terms of the show’s overall casting, and it certainly helps that there’s a whole wealth of characters whose roles need to be filled. This week, we have three more to report on.

The official Twitter account revealed that actors Maria Doyle Kennedy, Narinder Samra, and Daryl McCormack will be joining the fantasy series. They will be taking on the roles of Illa, Raen, and Aram, respectively.

Maria Doyle Kennedy is no stranger to fantasy. She recently starred in the fantasy series Outlander as Jocasta Cameron, but she’s also well-known for her role as Siobhan in Orphan Black. The character Illa is a Mahdi of the Tuatha’an. She’s described as “plump” in the books, but given this is Hollywood, it’s no surprise that is no longer the case.

Narinder Samra will be playing her husband, Raen, and I’ll admit, I am not too familiar with his work. He recently played a role in Homeland, but apart from that, I might have seen him in Christopher Robin as the milkman.

Playing their grandson Aram is Peaky Blinders star Daryl McCormack.

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, things do seem to be going along quite well. In addition to these casting updates, we know that production will be resuming either this and next month. Hopefully, that means there won’t be much delay for the show’s release. Last we heard, six of the eight episodes had been filmed, and assuming all goes well, a 2021 release on Amazon does seem possible.

Regardless, I’m incredibly stoked to see another great fantasy series hit the screen. While Game of Thrones (the show) wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, I think its opening of the fantasy floodgates can only be a good thing.
