The Wheel Of Time SDCC Panel Cancelled Along With Others Due To SAG And WGA Strike

Some Wheel of Time Season 3 news folks as three new cast members have been revealed now that filming has wrapped.

SDCC is going to be a strange one this year. It has been reported (and verified) that The Wheel of Time SDCC panel is cancelled along with many others due to the ongoing SAG and WGA strikes. As you probably know the actors and writers are now both on strike (for the first time in my memory). That means productions are being halted across the whole industry, and it also affects the upcoming convention season. Whilst on strike, actors cannot promote their movies/shows or conduct interviews.

We already knew there would be no major presence from Marvel or DC at this years SDCC. That’s probably because they knew this was coming, though there are other factors in play also. However, one big series had a panel all lined up to promote the upcoming sophomore season and that’s Amazon’s The Wheel of Time. Fans were expecting interviews with the cast, writers, showrunner, and hopefully a first full trailer. So far all we’ve had released for Season 2 is a small teaser.

Well, that won’t be happening folks, as per SDCC Blog (unofficial) who are keeping a tally of all cancelled panels and signings. However, I have been able to verify at least the part about The Wheel of Time panel. You can see a ticket holder showing the panel as being cancelled on the image below.

For now, who knows when Amazon will get to properly market Season 2 which drops this September? I guess even if the strike carries through, Amazon can release trailers, or previously recorded interviews, but they can’t record anything new. Production on Season 3 of The Wheel of Time will like everything else have to be delayed for the strikes. However, Season 2 was completed long before the strikes began and is probably in the hands of VFX artists now. Ergo, any kind of delay to Season 2 release date seems unlikely. However the lack of marketing potential at this time is sure to hurt Amazon either way.

Here is the current cancelled list on the website at time of writing.

I’m not familiar with who else is booked for this year, but so far the two biggest casualties are The Wheel of Time and Gen V which is the spin-off show from The Boys, also on Amazon. You can be sure that if it’s booked, then the actors won’t be there. There will of course still be all the comic books writers and artists who are not on strike, anime, other forms of animation, video games etc can all still be present.

What do you think as The Wheel of Time SDCC panel is cancelled along with many others due to the ongoing SAG and WGA strikes? Thoughts below as always.
