It’s official, The Witcher 3 is to release a new DLC titled Songs of the Past in 2027, eleven years after the original release. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in 2015 and it became one of the most lauded games of the era. The release was followed by two of the greatest DLC’s ever released in Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine.
There were many rumors recently that a new DLC may be coming, but I genuinely think most fans dismissed it. After all, developers CDPR are hard at work on The Witcher 4 right now. Then today, this dropped on TheWitcher.com.
‘Songs of the Past is a brand-new full-fledged expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the most acclaimed role-playing games of all time.’
‘Created in partnership with Fool’s Theory, a team comprising veteran The Witcher 3 developers, players can once again take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and embark on a brand-new adventure before heading out on the Path as Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4.’

This is awesome, from an admittedly pretty awesome developer. The question on fans minds now is simply, when can I play it and what will the story be about?
I didn’t buy The Witcher 3 until the Game of the Year edition so I got both DLC’s. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and it is one of the best single player games I have ever played. Therefore, I will definitely be getting this new DLC, though I’ll have to redownload my base game again.
In terms of speculation on the story? The way I see it, The Witcher 4 features a Ciri that has gone through the Witcher mutations and that has not happened by the end of The Witcher 3. My guess is a story that culminates in Geralt being forced to administer these to Ciri. Imagine having to make several choices right in order to have success, or if you get them wrong she dies instead? There are some rumors the DLC would bridge the gap between the two games and this would work for that.
Just bear in mind this is pure speculation from myself and right now we have zero idea what this story will entail.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC will release sometime in 2027, when exactly remains to be seen. Leave us any thoughts below as always.
