The Witcher: Has Writing On Season 2 Already Begun?

You know what they say: make sure you take all rumors with a grain of salt. It’s a good saying. Quite often in the film and TV biz is it easy to get worked up over something that may or may not even be happening — and even if these rumors are true, things change so quickly that it ends up not happening anyway. And if you should take RUMORS with a grain of salt, perhaps you should even treat tin foil hat speculation with even more skepticism.

What follows here is based on the puzzling together of many pieces, along with the support it has from other pieces of unconfirmed rumors. In short: don’t take this all to heart, but mull it over in your brains and decide for yourself.

As we know, Netflix is hard at work adapting the novel series The Witcher for the small screen. As was revealed by showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, Season 1 wrapped around May 30, meaning they will be heading into post-production. But, is it possible she and Netflix have already sent a pack of writers to start work on Season 2? Well, let’s take a look at some of the evidence.

Last December, The GWW scooper KC Walsh stated that Netflix was happy with what they were seeing and that they may be greenlighting multiple seasons of the show so that they can lock down star Henry Cavill.

Last month, buried in the internet, the NSFW blog Recapped said they were hearing that Season 2 of the show as set to begin filming December or January (they also said Netflix will stream the first season on December 2). Normally, I wouldn’t pay this any mind, but if Netflix really did want to capitalize on Henry Cavill’s schedule, a December 2019 or January 2020 timeframe didn’t seem too farfetched.

And then a handful of days ago, one of the writers on The Witcher, Declan de Barra, shared a photo on Instagram from Raleigh Studios, where their writer’s room is based. He didn’t specify which writers room, but assuming all the above is true, it could be our first clues of The Witcher Season 2 moving forward.

So what do you think of this? Admittedly, the sources here (especially from Recapped) aren’t exactly solid, but it does ultimately paint a believable picture, especially if Netflix wants to get out ahead of the fantasy rush — and with an A-list star at the forefront, no less.
