The Witcher Will Reportedly Begin Filming Again Soon

Cavill tosses coin to a Witcher

Like many shows in production, The Witcher found itself having to delay things when the pandemic hit. For the safety of the cast and crew, filming was delayed indefinitely. And like other shows, we had no idea when things would actually pick back up. However, with COVID-19 cases taking a dip overseas, studios are starting to slowly start up their productions once again.

Fans have been eager to see when Henry Cavill’s The Witcher would be picking up his sword once again. For many shows, there are rumors floating around about the productions picking up in the months to come. Luckily, for The Witcher, there are no rumors required. Netflix took to social media to confirm the new production start below!

“I’m dusting off my lute and quill,
I have some news, some mead to spill:
After all the months we’ve been apart
It’s time for production to restart.
The Witcher and his bard – who’s flawless,
Will reunite on set 17 August.”

Sadly, we still don’t know what this means for the release of the thing. Logic would dictate this could mean a delay of around a few months, but given we didn’t exactly have a release date in the first place, it’s not super easy to guess. But, of course, we don’t know what Netflix’s full slate is for the months to come, so they’ll want to slot this thing strategically.

Regardless, there’s a lot more Witcher to be had. Apart from Season 2, we have the previously-announced The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which will appear in animated form. The animation will feature Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor. While we don’t know how the pandemic affected that material, given animators’ ability to better work remotely, we could see it drop prior to the second season.
